From Skeptic to Success Story: Matt Langan's Journey on the Professional Security Operative Apprenticeship
When Matt Langan first heard about the Professional Security Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship, he’ll admit — he wasn’t entirely convinced. A year-long course sounded like a big commitment, especially while working in such a demanding industry. But as he soon discovered, the time flies when you’re learning, growing, and supported every step of the way.
“As many of you will feel the same, I was skeptical, due to the year-long commitment, but this becomes absolutely nothing after some time! I went for it and with the phenomenal personal support and advice I received from the course tutors, I found my own personal rhythm on how to achieve the work I needed to complete and overcome any obstacles.”
Once Matt got started, his confidence and motivation began to build. With guidance from his tutor, Andy Cook, he found not only new knowledge, but also a renewed passion for professional development.
“No matter how experienced and knowledgeable you are, there is always something to learn. Some amazing motivation from course tutor Andy Cook meant that I learned to push myself through the challenges.”
Matt approached each task as a chance to improve — and with every piece of feedback, he could see his own progress. That momentum carried him through to the very end of the programme, and in 2025, he successfully completed his End Point Assessment, earning a Merit for his efforts.
“There were things that I wanted to learn and take from it, and with every task completed and feedback received, I knew I was bettering myself and this is what kept me going to the bitter end! Self-improvement became a bit of an addiction. Now I'm doing a health and safety course!”
For Matt, the apprenticeship became more than a qualification — it was a journey of growth, reflection, and discovery.
